Third grade artists have been learning about the Masai people of Kenya and northern Tanzania during our African culture unit this month. My students have been creating some beautiful drawings that reflect their understanding of traditional Masai clothing and jewelry.
What a great project! Did students make the dresses themselves, or is it a piece of decorated paper?
Hi Jacquelien – thanks! We used decorated paper – Roylco’s African Textile Paper. And we used colored Madras tissue paper for the background.
How did you create the background? Is that glued down tissue paper?
Hi Mary – yes, the background is tissue paper – it is 12×18 Madras Tissue…the sheet is blended in the beautiful colors you see on the background. My students brushed their tagboard with thinned glue, then carefully placed the whole sheet of tissue on the tagboard.
