Winter Art Projects

Ringing in the New Year….and looking back at a few of our December “wintery” art projects!

Second grade Matisse Winter Collages. After learning about the brightly colored collages created by Henri Matisse, second graders painted paper with dots and learned how to do some fancy cutting to create their Matisse inspired collages.  Once they got the hang of using both the positive and negative space from their cut trees, their collages really came to life.

Third grade Colorful Candy Canes.  Third grade artists were challenged to use as many different color families to color their canes.  See if you can find: warm/cool, complementary, primary, secondary, rainbow, and of course…their own favorite color combinations!

Fourth grade Zentangle Trees.  Fourth graders practiced their zentangle skills as well as working with different media – a salt/watercolor wash and some tricky tape tearing for their trees.

Fifth grade radial art snowflakes.  Fifth grade artists explored radial art patterns while creating these colorful “designer snowflakes”.

Parents!  Many of these pieces can be found on our on-line art gallery ARTSONIA.  Here’s the LINK.

Hey, It’s Cold Out There!

We’ve been keeping warm in the art room as we create these snow-inspired winter projects.

Kindergarten artists drew fun penguins; don’t you love how their penguins are waving to you from their snowy icebergs?

What’s not to love about these snow bears?  Second grade artists said that they liked drawing them the best.  And adding the scarves and hats.  And oh yeah, painting the cool backgrounds.

Third grade artists reviewed the parts of a landscape before drawing and painting their detailed winter village scenes.  Their sky backgrounds – ooh la la!

Can’t get enough of Georgetown’s fabulous winter art?  See more HERE at our Artsonia on-line art gallery!  We’ve got over 13,000 masterpieces on display for you to enjoy!

New Winter Art Projects from G-Town

The blustery cold weather has inspired our Georgetown artists to create some fun “wintery” projects.  We are also starting our study and review of color, and these projects are reinforcing our understanding of color families such as primary and secondary colors, and  warm/cool colors.

First grade artists are working on these nice warm/cool holiday trees.

Second grade artists are finishing up some awesome grinches, focusing on shading and warm/cool color combinations.

Third graders are enjoying exploring different color families as they create these colorful candy canes!

Fourth and Fifth grade artists created visual interest with line, shape, and color as they created their Nutty Nutcrackers.
