Fresh From the Art Room….

We are finishing up some great projects in our art room!  Fourth graders have been revisiting a favorite artist, Faith Ringgold – and have created these beautiful self-portraits.  My favorite part of this project is reading what they wrote about themselves below their portraits – such a fun way for me to get to know them all a little bit better!  (click on the images to see what they wrote!)

First graders have completed a little pattern project – Beetle Bop Bugs.  This project gave them a chance to show Mrs. Brouwer their direction following and cutting skills…not to mention getting to use those fancy paper punches!  First graders learned that the paper punch can be a little tricky to use!

Second grade artists have been looking at the sunflowers painted by Vincent Van Gogh as they created their own beautiful sunflowers.

Second Grade Sunflowers

Ooh La La, don’t you love these sunflowers created by my talented second graders?  We’ve been looking at the sunflowers painted by Vincent VanGogh and reading the cute story by ~

Laurence Anholt, Camille and the Sunflowers.

Our beautiful sunflowers were drawn with large permanent markers and colored with water soluble oil pastels.  The black tempera background really makes our flowers pop!

Parents – you can find your child’s artwork for this project on our ARTSONIA site too!

This project was inspired by this image from Mirocomachiko’s blog.

Ten More…

A few more selections for the April HPS District Art Show, squeaking under the wire!  Congratulations, artists!

Second Grade Sunflowers

Second grade artists have been looking at the work of Vincent Van Gogh and his sunflower paintings.  They are finishing up these fun sunflowers – with a twist!  Zebra print stems and bright neon colors really jazz up these springy flowers.

Second Grade Sunflowers

My second grade artists created these beautiful sunflowers this week.  We looked at Van Gogh’s Vase of Sunflowers and focused on a single sunflower, using careful shading in oil pastel to create our work of art.

We learned about shading and value last fall with our pumpkin project – my second graders remembered this and did a beautiful job shading the sunflower petals.
