Traveling Art

Last week we had the privilege of sending another Georgetown work of art to our friends from our Sister School in Raey Guang, Taiwan.

This is our third piece of artwork that has traveled to Taiwan – we hope our friends enjoy this Still Life that was created by 5th Grader Matthew. Matthew shared that the best part about his “Still Life With Zentangles” was that after learning how to draw zentangles, he created his own zentangle designs to add to his piece.

Piles of Pumpkins

My fourth grade artists recently brainstormed some of the many reasons that artists make art, including: to make money (!), to express yourself, to relax, and….to give as a gift.

Since we will soon be hosting students from Raey Guang Elementary, our sister school in Pingtung, Taiwan, we put our creative abilities to work and made these fun bookmarks to welcome our friends to Georgetown.

Our friends will be visiting over Halloween so they can experience this American holiday. We hope they enjoy our Halloween bookmarks!

Raey Guang – Georgetown Student Artwork Exchange

June 2010 marked the beginning of our very first student art exchange with our sister school, Raey Guang, in Pingtung, Taiwan! We will continue our new tradition each year by sending one of our student pieces to Taiwain and eagerly awaiting a return piece of artwork created by a Raey Guang student.

Our first piece from Georgetown Elementary was created by 2nd Grade artist Jordyn. Jordyn used many bright colors and careful shading to create her happy, cheerful Green Robot. We felt her piece would make our friends from Taiwan smile every time they looked at it.

The artwork we received from Raey Guang was created by Yun-Chang Hsieh from Grade 1. The title is “Raey guang’s White Castle”. Here’s what Yun-Chang wrote about the White Castle piece: “Every morning as I get to the school, I see Raey Guang’s white castle that makes me energetic and vigorous. Many beautiful butterflies fly around the campus. They make Raey Guang even livelier. I am so happy to grow and learn in Raey Guang!”

I made an extra copy of Jordyn’s Green Robot so that we could frame both pieces and hang them in a special spot at Georgetown. Can’t wait to see them framed and hanging in our school!

Going Back….

As the new school year approaches, I realized that I forgot to tell you about our June visitors from our sister school in Pingtung, Taiwan, Raey Guang! Here’s a little recap from the art room.

This is Helen, who stayed overnight at my home – I wish her visit could have lasted longer!

Here are the felt pins that Georgetown artists made as gifts for our friends from Taiwan; we wrote our school motto on the cards too.

Fun Felt Pins

Our Georgetown students are excited about some special guests that are coming to our school in June – elementary students from our sister school at Raey Guang in Pingtung City, Taiwan! Some of our students are blog pen-pals and have been learning all about life in Taiwan.

Our art students wanted to create a special gift for our guests. The challenge: create something small and lightweight that would easily fit into a small suitcase filled with other treasures accumulated during the trip to the United States. And of course, our gift should be really cool too!

Our fourth grade artists were inspired by the fabric story quilts created by Faith Ringgold….and our little wearable art pins made from felt scraps, sequins, and tacky glue are the result.
