First Graders were excited to finally paint their clay tiles that they created before spring break. The room was very quiet as they concentrated on painting carefully with watercolors. Next week we’ll add a string to the tiles and wrap them up for the trip home.

More Art Room Projects in the works….
We are keeping soooo busy in the art room! Here’s a look at what our second graders have been working on.
Second graders were excited to begin a new robot project this week! If you look carefully, you’ll see that the robot head is made by tracing around an electrical outlet plug cover. And the arms and legs….well, you know Mrs. Brouwer can’t throw away anything…including the plastic trays that hold sets of watercolors! Great for robot arms and legs! Can’t wait to see these when the kids begin adding color.
Kindergarten Clay Project
Kindergarten artists are thrilled with their new clay pendants! We have been learning about the art element of texture, and our clay pendants were created using various texture tools to decorate the surface of the clay.
And, I must credit a fellow art teacher for this project idea – visit Art With Mr. E – I’d like to be a student in his Tennessee classroom too!
Clay Projects In Progress
Our two weeks of clay continues….here are some shots of projects in progress.
Fifth Graders throwing slabs for their clay fish – noisy and oh, so fun!
Fourth Graders are making Clay Dudes – they are enjoying using a garlic press to make some crazy hair.
We hope all the hair will survive firing in the kiln!
News from the Art Room
Georgetown students will be beginning their clay projects soon – this is always a time of excitement and artistic energy in the art room! Our students especially enjoy working in clay and look forward to this experience through the school year.
Here’s a peek at one of our projects – 2nd graders will begin making clay owls next week. This little guy has not been fired in the kiln yet – he’ll look really cute with a shiny brown glaze after his kiln visit.
Most of our clay projects this year will focus on the use of texture with clay, and all grades will learn how to use different tools to create texture on their projects. Each grade learns a new clay-building technique every year, and their projects build on the knowledge from previous years. Our second graders learned how to make a pinch-pot in kindergarten, and their owl is created by first building a pinch pot for the body, then adding wings and other “owly” details.
More clay pictures to follow as the clay projects continue!
More Art Show Selections!
More Art Show Selections!
Grades 3 and 4 have finished their clay projects, and we have some very excited artists who have had their clay masterpieces selected for display in our upcoming Hudsonville Student Art Show in April. Here are third graders with their coil pots, and fourth graders with their wall pockets. Congratulations artists!
New Projects in the Art Room
Artists in grades 3, 4, and 5 are currently working on their clay projects. Third graders have been learning how to build a coil pot, while 4th graders made on a wall pocket to hang on a wall. Our 5th graders are excited to begin their clay masks and can’t wait until the masks are fired and ready for them to paint.
Rolling coils for coil pots……and folding a clay slab into and “ice cream cone” wall pocket.
